Requirements for Studying Law in Ghana

  1. West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

    You must have a minimum credit pass in your WASSCE. Additionally, you need to have a minimum of credits in three core subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science/Social Studies. Furthermore, you should also have a minimum of credits in elective subjects.

  2. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

    SSSCE Candidates should have six (6) credits in their results. Additionally, this should comprise three core subjects as well as three elective subjects.

  3. General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE)

    Applicants with this certificate must have at least credit passes in six (6) subjects. Additionally, this should comprise three (3) core subjects, such as English Language and Mathematics. Furthermore, you need to also have three (3) relevant elective subjects.

  4. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level Candidates

    You should have a minimum of pass in three (3) subjects. Additionally, you must have had credit passes (Grade 6) in five GCE ordinary-level subjects such as English Language, Mathematics a Science subject (for non-science students), and an Arts subject (for Science students).

  5. General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)

    You must have at least five credits at the ‘O’ level. Additionally, you must have a minimum of pass in at least three subjects at the ‘A’ level. Furthermore, this must include subjects such as English Language and Mathematics.

  6. Higher National Diploma

    You must have graduated with at least an equivalent of 2nd Class Lower Division Candidates to first-degree programs. Additionally, you must have acquired a 2-year post-HND qualification working experience.

  7. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)

    You must have had credit passes in five (5) subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, or Social Studies. Additionally, you must obtain certificates such as the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), or WASSCE. Furthermore, ABCE candidates may be considered for admission at level 200 of a degree program.

  8. Mature Students Entry

    You must be at least 25 years old to qualify for this mode of entry. Additionally, you must show proof of age with a birth certificate that is at least 5 years old at the time of application or any legitimate documentary proof of date of birth. Furthermore, you must pass a Mature Student’s Entrance Examinations.

Duration

The duration for studying law in Ghana is Four (4) years. However, applicants with a first degree will spend three (3) years. After graduation, you will receive a Bachelor of Law (LL. B) degree.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee for studying law in Ghana varies depending on the university. Public schools are cheaper than Private schools. Additionally, non-citizens of Ghana pay a higher tuition fee compared to citizens. Generally, the average tuition fee is between GHS 20,000 to GHS 70, 000.
