Requirements for Studying Architecture in Germany

1. Academic Qualifications

   You must have completed 12 years of high school education before you can study architecture in Germany. Additionally, you must have a percentage of at least 60% in your high school results. You need to have good grades and a strong foundation in subjects such as Mathematics, design, Chemistry and Physics. Additionally, you need to make sure that your certificate is eligible and equivalent to the German certificate.

2. Admission Tests

   Some universities might require you to take an entrance test as part of the application process. You can take tests such as Hochschulzugangsberechtigung (HZB) or other subject-specific entrance exams of the university.

3. German Language Proficiency

   You need to understand the German language to study architecture in Germany. Therefore, you need to be familiar with the German language to be able to learn in those schools. You will be asked to submit a certificate that proves your proficiency. You can use tests such as TestDAF or DSH. This should be at least at the B1 level or higher.

4. English Language Proficiency

   If you are applying to a university that uses English as their language of instruction, you need to write a test of English. You can use tests such as IELTS or TOEFL. The Minimum score for TOEFL (internet-based) is 550, while TOEFL (paper-based) is 83. Additionally, the minimum score for IELTS is 7.0.

5. Undergraduate Degree

   If you are applying for a master’s degree in Architecture in Germany, you must have an undergraduate degree. This degree should be a bachelor’s degree in Architecture or a related field. Additionally, it should be from a recognised institution.

6. Have a good CGPA

   If you have an undergraduate degree, you need to have a good CGPA to study master’s in physics in Germany. Therefore, you are expected to have a minimum of 3.0 CGPA or 70%.

7. Have a Design Portfolio

   You should submit a sample of your portfolio and designs that you have created. These can be sketches or diagrams. However, this may not be compulsory by all universities.

   You need to submit your academic transcripts during your application. Generally, your transcripts should contain all the courses you studied as well as the grades

The duration for studying architecture in Germany is three to four years for the bachelor’s degree. Additionally, the master’s degree takes two years to complete.

The tuition fee for studying architecture in public universities in Germany is between €250/$305 per semester. However, in Baden-Württemberg, students pay about €1,500 per semester.
