Requirements for Studying Accounting in Ghana

  1. Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE)

    You must have at least credits in six subjects in your results. These must be subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Economics. Additionally, you should have three elective subjects including Financial Accounting in your results. Furthermore, your aggregate must not exceed 24.

  2. West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination

    You must obtain at least pass in six subjects in your results. These must be subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Economics. Additionally, you should have three elective subjects including Financial Accounting in your results. Furthermore, your aggregate must not exceed 36.

  3. General Business Certificate

    You must obtain at least pass in six subjects in your results. These must be subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Economics. Additionally, you must have extra three elective subjects which are related to the field of accounting.

  4. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level

    You have at least a pass in three subjects. Additionally, you must have had a credit pass in five GCE ordinary Level subjects. They should include subjects such as Mathematics, English Language and a Science subject.

  5. Higher National Diploma

    You need to have a good HND certificate. Additionally, you must have at least two years working experience. You will be admitted into 300level.

  6. Advanced Business Certificate Examination (ABCE)

    You must have at least a credit pass in five subjects in your certificate. These should be subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies. Additionally, you may be considered for admission at 200 level.

  7. Mature Candidates

    If you are 25 years and above, you will be required to show proof of your age with your birth certificate. Additionally, you must write and pass the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination. This examination includes subjects such as Mathematics, English Language and an Aptitude test.

  8. English Language Proficiency

    You need to write an English Language Proficiency test if English is not your first language. This course is taught in English in Ghana. You can write tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.

  9. Submit your Academic Transcripts

    If you have completed a first degree, you need to submit your academic transcripts. This should contain all the courses as well as the grades. Additionally, your transcript must be submitted in English.

The duration for studying Accounting in Ghana is four years. However, if you have a first degree, you can study for three years.

The tuition fee for studying accounting in Ghana varies based on each university. Additionally, students who are non-citizens of Ghana pay higher tuition fees. However, the average tuition fee for studying accounting in Ghana is GHc 4,200 (Four thousand two hundred cedis) per academic year.
